As part of our commitment to research and development, we are currently looking for a motivated Engineer Advanced Technology, Prototyping (M/F/D) to join our Advanced Technology team in Martinsried/Munich or Meiningen, Germany. This role focuses on the development and support of prototypes, lab demos, and field trials for the next generation of optical and packet transport networks.
Principle duties and essential functions
As a Research Engineer, you will contribute to the design, setup and maintenance of laboratory environments, where prototypes and next-generation networking technologies are tested and evaluated. You will support national and international projects, play an active role in interoperability events and work on pioneering technologies in the realm of packet and optical transport networks. This position offers hands-on involvement in both the development and demonstration phases of networking innovations.
Develop, implement, and maintain lab environments for testing and validating advanced optical and packet transport network technologies
Set up and execute lab demos and field trials to evaluate new prototypes and networking solutions
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate novel technologies into lab and field environments
Provide technical support during interoperation events to ensure the successful integration of different networking technologies and solutions
Actively contribute to national and international funded projects, providing technical input and experimental validation
Participate in and represent Adtran at key industry events, conferences, and workshops to demonstrate technological advancements
Knowledge, skills and experience requireds:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a related field
Strong experience in lab setup, prototype development, or field trials in telecommunications or networking environments
Solid understanding of optical networks, packet transport technologies and key industry standards such as MPLS, Ethernet, SDN, NFV, and WDM
Experience with networking equipment such as routers, switches, and optical transponders
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automating tests and network configurations.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to evolving project requirements
Fluent in oral and written English, fluency in German is a plus
